CAVALIER BIBLIOGRAPHY

You may need to ask your book store to special order books on Cavaliers and on dog care and training; however, 4-M Enterprises, the book seller booth at all-breed dog shows, usually has a wide variety in stock. You can order directly from 4-M; 1280 Pacific St., Union City, CA 94587; 510/489-8722 or (order placement only) 800/487-9867. The books listed below are among our favorites.

THE CAVALIER KING CHARLES SPANIEL by Margaret Workman (England: TFH Kingdom Books, 1999). This book covers a variety of topics – choosing a Cavalier, history of the breed and of well-known kennels, breeding, health, with many color photos. Some of the photo reproduction isn’t good, but the book is worthwhile nonetheless.

CAVALIER KING CHARLES SPANIELS TODAY by Sheila Smith (New York: Howell Book House, 1995). A new book written by the owner of Salador kennels in England, this book is an interesting and valuable volume, featuring information on both English and American dogs.

CAVALIER KING CHARLES SPANIELS: AN OWNER'S COMPANION by John Evans (New York: Howell Book House, 1990). An excellent book with much information on the breed, written by John Evans, who along with Alan Hall, has the Alansmere prefix in England.

ROYAL TOY SPANIELS by Alicia Pennington (Letchworth, Herts, England: Ringpress Books Ltd., 1989). This book covers both Cavalier King Charles Spaniels and King Charles Spaniels; it is the only one to deal with both breeds, discussing their history, differences, and similarities. Many photos of Cavaliers and "Charlies" illustrate this book.

ALL ABOUT THE CAVALIER KING CHARLES SPANIEL by Evelyn Booth (London: Pelham Books, 1983). A very good book about the breed, this one is full of useful information and has many interesting photos. The author was the owner of the Millstone prefix.

THE CAVALIER KING CHARLES SPANIEL by Susan Burgess (Queensland, Australia: Resola Pty Ltd., 1985). The book was written by the owner of the Crisdig prefix in England.

THE CAVALIER KING CHARLES SPANIEL by Lady Mary Forwood (London: Popular Dogs, 1967, 1985). This book has detailed history of the breed and covers many aspects of Cavalier ownership.

HOW TO RAISE A PUPPY YOU CAN LIVE WITH by Rutherford and Neil (Loveland, CO: Alpine Publications, 3rd Ed., 1999). A book puppy owners shouldn't live without, this one gives practical advice on training your pup. In addition to babyhood and young adulthood, the book covers the middle stages of puppyhood, so often neglected in other books.

THE ART OF RAISING A PUPPY by the Monks of New Skete (Boston: Little, Brown, and Co., 1991). This thorough book explains puppy developmental stages and gives helpful instructions for training and dog care.
